Marden is a thriving Village with a strong community spirit and a long history dating back to at least as far as Edward I. The parish of Marden is located about nine miles south of Maidstone, the County Town of Kent and has a population of approximately four thousand people. Although Marden is not mentioned by name in the Domesday Book, Meredenne, as it was known, had a wooden Church by the time of the Norman Conquest and was Crown property until the reign of James I. Marden flourished with the affluent Kentish wool trade until the late eighteenth century. By the 1800s Marden had developed into an agricultural community, particularly with the cultivation of hops and later, fruit. Nowadays, light industry has replaced much of the farming as a source of income but Marden continues to prosper, proud of its past and optimistic about its future.

Marden offers local everyday amenities with various friendly Village Shops, a Butchers, a Bakery, a Post Office, a Farm Shop, welcoming Country Inns, its own Vineyard producing fine Chardonnay, several Takeaway/Restaurants, a Library, a Veterinary Surgery, a Medical Centre, a Dentist, a Chemist, a Car Service Station, a Hairdresser, a Natwest Bank, a Nursery and a brilliant Primary School. There are many social clubs for all ages including Children’s Football Clubs, Brownies, a Youth Club, a Keep Fit Club, a Cycle Club, Tennis, Hockey, Cricket, Bowls and a Theatre Group to name just a few.  The local Church also has social groups and organised activities.

For the commuter, Marden has a Mainline Station in the centre of the Village taking passengers into the City and Central London in less than an hour. Access to the Motorway Network is within reasonable driving distance too.

Towns such as Maidstone and Royal Tunbridge Wells are within driving distance for days when a little retail therapy is needed! Within the area are a number of good state schools and excellent private schools such as the Grammar Schools in Maidstone,  Sutton Valence, Dulwich, Marlborough House, Bethany and Cranbrook.
